Runway reality

A short runway shapes everything about a Mykonos charter.

Mykonos Island National Airport (LGMK) sits tight against the Aegean, with a single ~6,200 ft runway. That physics equation decides which aircraft can land, how heavy they can be on a hot July afternoon, and how scarce a slot becomes when the island fills.

LGMK ~6,200 ft favors light/midsize jets. Heavy jets (Gulfstream G650, Global 7500) are weight-restricted in peak summer temperatures and often re-route through Athens (LGAV) or Santorini (LGSR). We plan the right aircraft for the runway, the heat, and your passenger count — not just the catalogue.

July & August: LGMK slot allocation tightens sharply for arrivals 16:00–21:00 local. Friday and Sunday evenings are the most contested windows of the Mediterranean season. We hold relationships with the handlers and slot coordinators to secure your preferred time.

Group & villa travel

For the villa, the yacht, and the whole party.

Most Mykonos charters aren't solo. We coordinate group uplift, villa concierge handoffs, and yacht-tender connections so the aircraft, the house, and the boat arrive on the same clock.

Mykonos charter questions

The short-runway questions, answered.

Can heavy jets use LGMK?

Generally no, not at useful payloads. LGMK's ~6,200 ft runway, combined with hot summer temperatures and the surrounding terrain, makes heavy jets like the Gulfstream G650 or Global 6000/7500 weight-restricted. They often can't land with the fuel and passenger load a long-haul flight requires.

The practical answer for Mykonos is a light, midsize, or super-midsize jet (Citation XLS+, Challenger 350, Legacy 500). Heavy-jet travellers typically route via Athens (LGAV) or Santorini (LGSR) and connect onward.

How early should I book for peak August?

For July and August, especially Friday and Sunday evenings, we recommend booking 10–14 days ahead at minimum. Last-minute slots do open, but pricing climbs steeply and the preferred arrival windows (typically 16:00–21:00 local) fill first.

For weekends in peak season, two to three weeks gives the best mix of aircraft choice, slot time, and price.

What are my Athens connect options?

Athens Eleftherios Venizelos (LGAV) is the most reliable hub for Mykonos. A light jet or turboprop from LGAV to LGMK is ~40 minutes, with multiple daily slot windows.

This is the standard path for heavy-jet travellers arriving intercontinental: long-haul into Athens, then a short island hop. We can plan both legs as a single itinerary with a seamless FBO transfer.

Are there heliport alternatives?

Yes. Helicopter transfers are a popular alternative, both for reaching Mykonos from nearby islands (Santorini, Paros, Naxos) and for moving between the airport, yachts, and villas on arrival.

Heli slots are also capacity-controlled in peak season. We can quote a fixed-wing + helicopter combination or a helicopter-only itinerary on request.

Are there night curfews at Mykonos?

LGMK operates within restricted hours that tighten further in peak season. Late-night arrivals are generally not permitted, and slots concentrate in daytime and early-evening windows. This is precisely why peak slots become so scarce.

If your schedule demands a late arrival, we'll usually plan a touchdown at Athens (LGAV) or another 24-hour field, with an onward connection the following morning.
